A waning crescent moon symbol of the West — the direction of release and devotion in the Medicine Wheel.

"Time — The Truest Measure of Devotion"

A reflection from the West 🌘

There is a season inside every cycle when something in a woman quiets. The luteal days before bleeding. The waning moon as she turns toward dark. The slow drawing-in of autumn. The hours after the sun has set.

This is the West.

In the Medicine Wheel, the West is the direction of release and discernment — the place where the outward dims and what remains is honesty. It is where a woman is asked, without escape, to look at what she has been carrying and decide what gets to remain.

We move through this territory every month, whether we notice or not. The pre-menstrual days are not a malfunction. They are the body's West. They are where the veil thins and the truth rises and what has been ignored becomes too loud to ignore.

In the HerSpirit path, the West is the direction of Devotion. This is its teaching.

Where your time goes, your life goes.

This is not a metaphor. It is the most practical truth the West holds.

A woman can say that she values herself, that she values peace, that she values relationships where she is truly met. And then she can look honestly at how she spent the last week. The last month. The last year. And if there is a gap between what she says she values and where her time is actually going — that gap is where her life force is leaking.

Time given to what drains you is not patience. It is not love. It is not loyalty. It is your life, being spent in the wrong direction.

This is what the West makes visible. Not to punish. Not to create guilt. But to show a woman, clearly and compassionately, the true cost of what she has been maintaining. The relationship that takes without returning. The situation she has been managing for years without resolution. The version of herself she keeps performing to preserve a harmony that no longer exists.

Every hour of maintenance. Every day of endurance. Every year of hoping things will change without anything actually changing. This is not devotion. This is the slow giving away of a life.

And it is possible to give it away so gradually, so quietly, so politely, that you do not notice it is gone until the exhaustion becomes undeniable.

The West does not ask you to abandon what you love. It asks you to look honestly at whether what you are giving your time to is actually worthy of your life force. Whether the exchange is real. Whether you are being met in the giving, or whether you are simply giving into a space that will never be full.

Devotion without discernment becomes depletion. Many women do not lack love. They lack the willingness to see where that love is being spent. The West offers that willingness. Not as a weapon. As a compass.

Where is my time going?

What is my time telling me about what I truly value?

And what would change if I began to treat my time as the sacred life force it actually is?

Let these questions settle in the body. Do not rush to answer them. The West moves slowly. But it moves true.

🌘

May you know the weight of your own time.

May you stop giving your hours to what has already taken enough.

May you devote your days to what is worthy of your life.

Your time is your life force. Spend it as something sacred.

This is the territory we move into at Travessia do Sol this June — six days held in the hills of northern Portugal, in a small circle of women willing to meet themselves at this depth. And this is the work that continues, more quietly, in the private one-to-one devotional path I hold with women ready for the longer arc.

If something in this writing has stirred a truth you have been carrying, you are welcome to come closer.
